How do I deal with algae in my Glass Water System?

Edited

Although uncommon, if algae grows in your Glass Water System, it can easily be remedied by following these steps:

  1. Clean the system with a 25% solution of white vinegar or a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide.

  2. Use a soft, new sponge to scrape the algae film off the affected components. Please refrain from utilizing a used kitchen sponge as this usually contains bacteria from food particles.

  3. Use a Q-tip to further remove any remaining algae in spots that are difficult to reach with a sponge.

  4. Thoroughly wash and dry the cleaned system. Please note that some dish detergents contain phosphates that can encourage algae growth.

  5. Replace the Mineral Stones kit with a new one. Once there is algae growth in the Lower Tank you will need to replace the MINA Filter. Forgoing the replacement of the filters will lead to continued algae growth because there will still be algae alive inside of the filters.
