The inside of my filter looks moldy, is it ok?
If you see white or blue-green discoloration inside your filter, this is not mold. Rather, it is contaminants adsorbed by granulated activated carbon (the filter media) on its surface and/or dissolved minerals if you have hard water.
The blue-green color typically indicates an elevated concentration of copper in the tap water. This is not harmful, as our filtration media effectively reduces the concentration of copper and sometimes results in the blue-green precipitates shown in your filter. This is a visual indicator that the copper is being trapped by the filter.
If you see the blue-green or white colour in the mineral section of your filter, this could be either copper or an oxidation of the coating of the ceramic balls. Please be assured that nothing leaches into the effluent water, as indicated by our test results.
We recommend continuing to monitor the amount of this blue-green deposits and suggest that you consider replacing this filter sooner than the typical 4-month lifespan if the deposits gets larger.
