How do I deal with algae in my Gravity Water System?

Although uncommon, if algae grows in your Gravity Water System, it can easily be remedied by following these steps:

1. Clean the system with a 25% solution of white vinegar or a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide.

2. Use a soft, new sponge to scrape the algae film off the affected components. Please refrain from utilizing a used kitchen sponge as this usually contains bacteria from food particles.

3. Use a Q-tip to further remove any remaining algae in spots that are difficult to reach with a sponge.

4. Thoroughly wash and dry, the cleaned system. Please note that some dish detergents contain phosphates that can encourage algae growth.

5. Boil the Mineral Stones for between 2 - 5 minutes, then let air dry.

6. Replace the 5-Stage/Fluoride Filter if affected, or if it is past its filter life.

Once there is algae growth in the Lower Tank you will need to replace the 5-Stage Filter/Fluoride Filter. If there is algae growth in the Upper Tank the Ceramic Pre-filter will also need to be replaced. Forgoing the replacement of the filters will lead to continued algae growth because there will still be algae alive inside of the filters.
