What are the black particles or specs in my pitcher and how do I get rid of them?

Edited

The particles in your pitcher are excess Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) pieces that have escaped the filter. These are not harmful to consume and do not reduce the functionality of your filter.

These particles are typically flushed out in the preparation stage, but it's possible for them to appear in your pitcher during use. Follow these steps to remove them:

  1. Remove the filter from your pitcher or system.

  2. Hold the filter under cold running water for 2–3 minutes.

  3. Shake and tap the sides of the filter while rinsing to dislodge excess carbon.

  4. Tip: Place a white dish under the filter — when the water runs clear, the filter is ready.

  5. Reinstall the filter and fill the tank. Discard the first 2–3 batches of filtered water.

Please note that GAC particles are not harmful if ingested.
