Is Fluoride a Concern for Skin Absorption?

Edited

Fluoride is often added to public water supplies to prevent tooth decay, and ingesting fluoride from drinking water may be harmful to your health. Luckily, exposure to fluoride onto your skin while showering or bathing does not pose a significant risk to your health.

Here’s why:

  • Limited Absorption: Due to a strong skin barrier, fluoride is unable to penetrate the skin in significant amounts. The primary risk of exposure to fluoride comes from ingestion, not skin absorption.

Fluoride in drinking water can be a concern if consumed in large amounts, but skin exposure during bathing or showering is safe.
